  1. Well, it is a pity they picked such a stupid name. I would have sold them bettingmarkets had they approached me. Simple and does what it says on the can. Smarkets is simply too contrived.

  2. I respectfully disagree. People will understand that “Smarkets” = Smart + Markets.

    Not a bad brand name.

    Let’s see what other people think about it.

    They are focusing on the right issues – complexity and social interaction. I didn’t get that third part.
    But none of this will matter much if they don’t know how to convince people to disconnect from betfair’s superior liquidity and ease of trading (getting matched).
    A massive ad campaign is needed as well as some innovative ideas. I think they should bring the “forum” closer to the market so people can interact while betting/trading. Maybe that is their intention, I don’t know.
    When you get all that right you don’t want your technology to be the limiting factor of your success, so you have to get that right from the start as well. You wouldn’t think so, but Betfair can easily be beaten at this as well.
