There has been some discussion over the years about whether Sarah Jones was a real person since solicitations to participate in “your PM Cluster” sounded very much like another person. Well we just picked up a voicemail on our main line from none other than Sarah Jones (at least that’s what she said her name was ) so it seems she does actually exist. Admittedly I had wondered if she was an imaginary friend too, but perhaps this urban legend can finally be put to rest.

I have received e-mails from some business people interested in prediction market conferences. All told me that they suspect that the e-mail account of a “Sarah V. Jones” [*] is in fact operated by John M. —so as to create the illusion of a team. They base their hypothesis on the similitudes between the vocabularies and writing styles used by both persons.

I am neutral. What do you think?

[*] The “Sarah V. Jones” might well be a real human being. The hypothesis, here, is that she is not the one who operates her e-mail account and sends all those commercial messages to that e-mailing list —pumping up some second-tier conference.

Or is “Sarah V. Jones” a pseudonym used by John Maloney to make his gullible prospects and clients believe that he has a personal assistant and to artificially generate discussions on his crappy e-mailing discussion list?

The same language mannerism…

Let’s create a prediction market on Inkling Markets on whether, one day, the truth is out of the bottle, and evidence is brought before us that John Maloney and “Sarah V. Jones” are the same single entity —John Maloney himself. I’m long, of course.

UPDATE: Another Deep Throat tells me that he has indeed received phone calls from a “Sarah”, but this second Deep Throat suspects too that John Maloney might be using a second e-mail account established as “Sarah V. Jones”. So, maybe the prediction market should focus on whether John Maloney uses a pseudonym to post on his e-mailing discussion list.
