<p>As for anonymity:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 120px;">One thing I learned about business journalism when I was actually in business (Wall Street) was that <strong>anyone who went on the record had an agenda. The only folks who told the real story were the anonymous background sources.</strong> So, here at least, I think it would be a mistake to force people to comment under their own names.</p>
<p>We publish anonymous sources only when it is truly necessary, but we prefer that people disclose their identity. Otherwise, some P.R. people hide under pseudonyms to puff their wind.</p>
