FAIL — BetFair have fucked up the Right2Bet widgets.

truck-fail

Since 2005, I have been telling BetFair to create chart widgets that go into feed —that is, widgets that can be seen within feed readers (e.g., Google Reader, which is the most popular of all the feed readers).

As you know, BetFair funds the Right2Bet campaign. When Mike Robb published on Twitter that they were going to unveil widgets, I immediately asked them whether they made sure that their widgets would go into feed. Mike Robb was positive that their widgets would go into feed:

REALITY CHECK

The result of my handling of the Right2Bet widgets is that:

  1. The Right2Bet widgets appear fine on a webpage (in our case, a blog post).
  2. The Right2Bet widgets look fine within a PC-based reader (I used Vienna for Macintosh).
  3. However, the Right2Bet widgets do not show up within Google Reader, which is a Web-based feed reader, and the most popular of all feed readers.

You can see in the screen shot that the Right2Bet widget does not appear (it would have showed just after the first line in bold and before the word “UPDATE”):

So, once again, I get to conclude that:

  1. BetFair didn’t listen to outside advice.
  2. BetFair fucked up something that InTrade, NewsFutures and HubDub handle very well. – [InTrade and NewsFutures do it right since 2005, for your information.]
