3. What would you likely use as an alternative if InTrade.com were no longer available?
I probably wouldn’t use an alternative. –> 65%
It is a lie. They would use BetFair USA instead —or another service. Come on.
And Chris Masse of Midas Oracle is not a “symbiotic detractor”, John. Blame yourself for the occasional slamming in the world’s #1 prediction market blog. I am a fair guy. All the slams published here are deserved. Take it graciously —as the other ones do.
I trust the poll.
Betfair is not at all well known in the US compared to Intrade.
I’d guess that maybe 1/3 of the US-based Intrade users have even heard of Betfair.
Tea,
What I meant is that you should never swallow 100% what the customers say. For instance, for years, consumers told polls they want cars that are eco-friendly, but, in reality, they bought gas hogs (SUVs, etc.). That is what I meant. Spending intention revealed by polls are not something you should trust.
As for BetFair, as soon as the US legalize online gambling, they will open their doors and make ads. Then, the US consumers *will* be aware of them. Same thing for the other US-based, online bettting operators.
That said, InTrade is indeed the market leader.
Betfair does not even allow to login or trade from the US. Intrade allows users to login and trade but they have to transfer money to Intrade using wire transfers or a non-US credit card.
Panos,
InTrade indeed offers its services illegally to the US residents, and InTrade is the best real-money prediction exchange at this time. I didn’t deny that.
What I said is that if one day InTrade goes South and online betting is legal in the US, then the InTrade customers will go knowcking BetFair’s door. The poll respondents lied to the InTrade survey form.
