The French Rule:
La règle francaise.
Or
Les francaises règnent.
Or maybe
The French rule is that the French rule.
La règle francaise est que les francaises regnent.
Caruso, I meant, “The French people do rule”. I thought the title would be original. Don’t mind too much the title, the photo is great.
I know, I was joking. I have a lot of respect for the French. I wish the British had more of the French temperament in a few areas.
Ouch, the French are socialist. It is not something that the British need.
I wasn’t speaking about politics.
That said, socialism per se is just what we all need, in my opinion. I don’t mean UK New Labour “socialism”, which obviously isn’t anthing to do with socialism, but a desire to make the Labout party electable (congratulations, Mr. Blair). I mean “socialism” in its purist form as I understand it.
I admire the French from a character perspective. At least, as it appears to me from what I’ve seen of them.
They did indeed – sixty years ago. Characters change. Or circumstances. The character of my compatriots of the 21st century is not one I admire. Maybe the guts and fortitude of the war years will come back? One can hope.
Don’t apologise, I’m largely non-political, anyway. I would probably best describe myself as a “socialist conservative”.
Same could be said about the British. They displayed their “character” during WWII.
Both people have its pros and cons.
Sorry, but I hate socialism.
I never liked the French, they seem to lack the capability to behave in a normal way.
I was unpleasantly surprised when I met the British people though as it seems complacency rules there. I’ve learned to love my country again.
The Dutch rule Chris. We have the biggest company in the world (another one in the top 10) and the happiest children in the world. We can smoke a joint whenever we feel like it even though the number of drug related deaths are amongst the lowest in Europe. We are a “socialist” country by and large.
The British like it up their arse
The French have got something up their arse.
And the Americans don’t know they’ve got something up their arse.
“Nationalism is our form of incest, is our idolatry, is our insanity. ”Patriotism” is its cult. It should hardly be necessary to say, that by ”patriotism” I mean that attitude which puts the own nation above humanity, above the principles of truth and justice; not the loving interest in one’s own nation, which is the concern with the nation’s spiritual as much as with its material welfare /never with its power over other nations. Just as love for one individual which excludes the love for others is not love, love for one’s country which is not part of one’s love for humanity is not love, but idolatrous worship.â€
Chris
You always struck me as more Benny Andersson, than Chris Anderson;

Caruso, I am a libertarian, just like Chris Anderson.

Medemi, I like the Dutch. I like Holland.
Niall, Benny sounds cool.
That is a good quote.
