Robin Hanson could have drafted a petition asking for totally free prediction markets, but he didn’t —alas.

The unrepentant Robin Hanson:

So, if the kid who lives in that big house on the hill got a horse last Christmas, your Christmas list this year will include a horse, and you’ll be hopping mad if you don’t get it, even though you live in a shack?

The British people enjoying full freedom via Internet betting are not spoiled kids. They are more advanced than us in the freedom timeline. It’s up to us to catch up with them. Signing Bob’s petitions won’t help, because Bob’s petitions send all the wrong signals:

  1. sports betting is bad;
  2. for-profit prediction exchanges are bad;
  3. commercial prediction exchanges will never mind socially valuable prediction markets;
  4. big money speculating on event derivative markets is bad;
  5. etc.

You don’t compromise with freedom.

Your Founding Fathers didn’t.
