Thoughts on Weather Bill – by Eric Zitzewitz – 2007-01-04
What I think is most innovative is the idea of marketing a prediction market contract as “insurance.â€
Which retail event derivatives (we’re familiar with here, on Midas Oracle) could be sold as insurance thru a usable web interface, over than weather? Any idea, folks? Could sporting sponsors use our prediction exchanges (betting exchanges) to hedge against team defeats?? Would it make economic sense? WeatherBill uses a large data bank of old stats on the weather. I guess the situation would be different for “SportsBill”. Old track record on sporting teams and athletes would not be of much help. And where is Eric Zitzewitz when we need him??

Betbrokers; “We established our Sports Risk Management service in 2007, which offers sponsors
and sports club owners the ability to hedge or ‘’insure’’ their financial risks of player bonuses and similar outlays…”
Search and you will find.
No need to pass thru a broker. Hedgers would access the #1 exchange directly.
