I have absolutely no experience with patent law, so I can't answer Tom's questions.

But it seems to me that a real-money prediction exchange using a similar model might operate a trading accounting system which is distinguishable from a "game server computer" host.

A game server computer would itself contain the whole world of the game -- records, luck elements, and all -- while a trading accounting system that a prediction market sets up would maintain the set of accounts related to participants, but the payoffs would arise from things happening outside of the accounting system.

I should think so. That leads to the next questions: Would PurePlay's patent bar the planned use? If so, is that patent valid, or would PurePlay license the use?

And the next question is, "Would a US-based real-money prediction exchange find it interesting to use this model?".
