Some of us are too busy taking care of our families (or blogging) to qualify for special interests trying to squeeze the government for favors.
Seems like this sort of lobbying would counter the current gambling special interests: state lotteries, casinos, horse racing, etc. The “favor” is freedom from others’ favors, no?
Aside from the information legal markets would reveal, I believe that markets tied to elections and policy will mitigate special interest problems in general. (Although it is by no means straightforward and I have a long list of potential problems with such markets that I’ll work into a post at some point.)
