It's pretty interesting how Tim Donaghy worked his point shaving scheme in the NBA. G Victory margins can vary so much in the NBA, when you consider injuries, trades, and suspensions. Unlike the NFL where teams only score times a game, or in the MLB where scores are quite low...In the NBA, one team can fail to show up to play unexpectedly, and get demolished at home. I'm sure point shaving would occur during the end of blowout games, but it's not impossible to suggest that "big games" could be manipulated early in the game as well, by calling two fouls on a star player in the first quarter. I'm skeptical that the NBA is "rigged," but the refs have natural tendencies, and it's a subjective part of the game that's easy to point fingers at. Interesting post, Jonathan. Most people seem to think that NBA (or any other American sportsbetting) is purely a matter of almost tossing a coin and betting on who they think will win. Of course this isnt the case at all.
