Our Royal Highness has listened to my criticism. He has created a brand-new FavIcon for his group blog, Overcoming Errors dot com —a beautiful one this time. But I still stand on my pick of the Alea favicon as being top notch.

It’s cute… but… what is it supposed to represent?? The sun coming out of the top right corner of a white page? Does anybody have the first clue?? Well, don’t mind… it’s l’art naif.
Psstt… JCK… Could you suppress the white border wrapped around your delicious icon??
Addendum: Robin Hanson has posted a comment…
Chris, the cloud is bias, making it hard to see clearly, and the sun is coming out from behind the cloud, letting us see more clearly. Overcoming Bias can hopefully be like that sun, helping people see more clearly. Clear?
The idea is smart. The cloud should have a fuzzier shape… it’s too much geometric —anyway, it’s a beautiful icon.

Smart idea. The cloud is too much geometric, but that’s a minor.
It would be better if the sun was just barely peaking out behind the cloud, and if the cloud was dark and sinister. Any artist out there capable of making that favicon?
You would look for an artist who would make a medium-size image, and then reduce its size to 16 x 16 and save it as a ICO file.
However, I have noticed that downsizing a superb image gives a crappy result —unless it is a simple mid-size image (but then there’s no point in downsizing it since we can create a simple, small favicon right away).
I would go for an artist who is experienced in designing beautiful favicons. Typing “favicon” in Google would give clues. (There was a logo design firm who used to advertise at Tech Crunch, but I don’t see it anymore.)

I’m emailing Alex Kirtland for hints. The rascal is in vacation, though.

Mike Linksvayer or Chris Hibbert or else could have tips.
I’m thinking of something. The Marginal Revolution guys ran a contest for their logo.
